Overview
We are supporting a large public sector organisation with the recruitment of Vehicle Technicians to join their established and structured fleet maintenance team. The role operates across multiple workshop sites within Surrey and Sussex. This opportunity is ideal for experienced technicians who value job stability, clear working structure, and purposeful work that contributes to essential public service operations, without the commercial pressures of retail or main dealer environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Servicing, repairs, and routine maintenance across a critical and varied operational fleet including cars, vans, and specialist vehicles.
- Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults using industry recognised diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Conducting vehicle inspections to ensure compliance, roadworthiness, and safety.
- Maintaining accurate job updates and parts usage records on workshop management systems.
- Working collaboratively with the workshop team to prioritise vehicle uptime and reduce downtime.
- Receiving training to support specialist equipment fitting and maintenance where required.
- Supporting urgent or unplanned breakdown requests when applicable.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Light or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- Recent hands-on professional experience as a qualified Vehicle Technician or Mechanic.
- Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and problem-solving skill set.
- Solid mechanical and electrical systems knowledge.
- A clear commitment to safety, compliance, and high-quality work standards.
- Holding a valid driving licence.
Desirable Experience
Experience working within organised fleet operations or public-sector workshops. Exposure to emergency services or specialist vehicle maintenance. Auto-electrical fitting experience. EV or hybrid qualifications or high-voltage training (not mandatory). Breakdown or call-out rotation support experience.
